President Xi Jinping met with representatives of model civil servants who are in Beijing to attend a national award ceremony on Tuesday. Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended his greetings and congratulations to the representatives from across the country. He encouraged them to stick to their mission and shoulder their responsibilities with dedication.

8月30日上午，随着最后一组钢轨顺利铺设，我国首条跨海高铁在福建省全线铺轨贯通。新建福厦铁路设计时速350公里，正线全长277.42公里，全线共设8座车站。铁路建成通车后，福州、厦门两地将实现“一小时生活圈”。
Track-laying work on the country's first sea-crossing high-speed railway was completed on Tuesday morning in east China's Fujian Province.The 277-km railway links Fuzhou, the provincial capital, with Xiamen, a port city. With a designed speed of 350 km per hour and eight stations along the route, it is expected to slash the travel time between the two cities to just one hour.
