　     日前看到一篇有关黄梅戏发展史的稿件，其中提到建国初期新组建的黄梅剧团前往抗美援朝前线和深入厂矿进行“慰问演出”。译文用的是“condolence performance”, 感觉不妥。Condolence 的意思是an expression of sympathy with another's grief（对某人的忧伤表示同情）， 这样就背离了morale boosting（鼓舞士气）和 greetings expressing（表达问候）的原意。
         翻开汉英字典，其中对慰问的解释有：visit (the sick/distressed); express sympathy and solicitude for; extend regards/greetings (to); convey greetings (to)。在所举例句中，有“慰问灾区人民（express sympathy and solicitude for the people in disaster-stricken areas）”；“对遇难者家属表示慰问(condole with the victims’ family on their misfortune)”；“请向他们转达我们亲切的慰问(Please convey to them our sincere solicitude)"。
        在所给出的词组中有“慰问团”，“慰问信”，“慰问演出”中分别是 “visiting delegation/group (sent to convey greetings and appreciation”,“letter of consolation/sympathy”和“special performance as an expression of gratitude and appreciation”。然而，对于一些中特语言词汇，中英字典所给的基本只有解释没有对应翻译。参照国外对“感谢信（thank you letter）”的用法，建议使用“thank you performance”。 而原译的“condolence performance”似可只能用于葬礼上“哀乐”演奏，因为“condolence”除了慰问，还有哀悼的意思。
