Started by Yang Fengtian, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and developed by Shenyang Aerospace University, the "RX1E" electric light-sport aircraft marks China’s first manned electric light aircraft.
The plane, powered by lithium batteries, is capable of flying a maximum altitude of 3,000 meters. A charging time of 90 minutes enables it to fly for 45 to 60 minutes. The plane can be used for pilot training, sightseeing tours as well as experimental flying. The model was given a production permit in Shenyang on Thursday.

The two-seat RX1E aircraft can fly for 45-60 minutes with a maximum speed of 120 km per hour after an hour and a half of charging, according to its developer, the Liaoning General Aviation Research Academy in northeast China.
